Zeitgeist

I started watching an interesting movie on my Wii on YouTube, which is weird enough to me. Any way, the movie is called “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward”. With out trying to explain I will just share a quote from the website. It’s a good watch if you consider your self a socially responsible person. It’s interesting to note that the movie was released free online as soon as it was completed.

“The Zeitgeist Movement is a grass roots campaign to unify the world through a common ideology based on the fundamentals of life and nature. It is based on the social / technological work of Jacque Fresco and his Venus Project. The Zeitgeist Movement bypasses traditional ideas of politics, religion and the like and instead attempts to communicate how all humans are the same at the fundamental level and how it is time we start to work together on a global scale to end the seemingly perpetual conflict and suffering in our current world society.”

Leah and Lauren

Wow, what can I say about two girls who are only 13 and 14 are raising money and awareness about their plans for a skatepark. Great work girls and good luck!

Out of many, we are truly one.

Barack Obama speach

“I chose to run for president at this moment in history because I believe deeply that we can not solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together.”

What is Eco Density?

Traffic Image

The huge houses in the suburbs may one day be the more expensive choice for where you want to live. Eco Density is about more people living in the city and less people driving. It’s an inevitable future many choose to ignore.

My friend and Vancouver City Planner Michael Gordon directed this video, “Sustainability… it’s a Good Thing”. It’s insightful about how much better things can be.

Geoff Hendrey, BS Disaster

Geoff Hendrey, BS Disaster

Location: Marseille Skatepark – Marseille, France
Medium: 35MM, Canon EOS Elan

I finally launched my portfolio site, SktNrd.com. I shared it with a few friends, in search of some typos or perhaps bugs. Thanks to Haveboard the site is tight. It comes with a full content management system where I can edit the site all I want.

I recently got involved in a project with Geoff Hendrey and his buddy Brent. It’s called NextDB.net. Something about hosted database systems using Ajax? I dunno’, sorta not my area. But seriously, it’s great stuff and I really enjoy working with Geoff on great new ideas. He’s full of them.

With the edits and comments I received with this weeks launch of SktNrd, I got a great message from Geoff. He said, “You’ve got a really broad portfolio that’s clearly influenced by a love of travel, and basic honesty towards life and exploration. It’s very cool.” That’s a great way to summarize what I am trying to do. Thanks.

Signs From Somewhere?

Ax Throwers

Creepy, that was the first word that came to mind. On monday I got up early and skated at Alter. No problem. Usually there are a few bottles or cans to clean up before my solo shred session. I poked around and picked up a grip of stapled paper called Axe Throwers. Cool, a zine. I’m gonna steal it. My collection of papers from years of trash collecting has turned into quite the skateboard magazine archive. I was sure to put it in my jacket pocket and conceal it before any one else arrived. After about an hour of birch surfing I bailed real weird, kneed the bull nose coping and was flown back to the bowl floor. I ran around in pain and jumped on my bike home for some ice and Strangers With Candy.

A few days later, I get home from working and threw on some records. One of the 10 mix today was a vinyl collection of  TV theme songs. I stroll around the house and let a few records play. I walked over to the table and picked up my copy of Axe Throwers and start browsing the pages. I found a page with guys sitting in an empty pool and start reading the caption. “…then got the boot from big bad police man. Good times.” Just as I read the line I heard it on my record player. The theme song to the show, “Good Times” was playing. Freaking nuts! What are the chances? Was it bad karma that I slammed my knee? I am not going to return my copy of Axe Throwers, I’ve earned it. But I’m not gonna steal mags from Alter any more.

Skate Parker

It’s 2008 and I have been making websites for 10 years. However, I am still without a proper online portfolio. Hmm… what’s wrong with me?

After some serious digging around, I found this photo of Parker doing the perfect skatepark kickflip. I took this photo on a trip to San Francisco a few years back.

Welcome to SktNrd

After I woke up and checked my email for 3 hours, I made breakfast. My meal consisted of toasted whole wheat bread smothered in Nutella and peanut butter, a bottle of Coke sweetened with real cane sugar, and a glass of water. It was 2:45 and finally time for me to post on SktNrd.com.

Welcome to my site. I created SkateNerd with a bunch of friends and spent 3 years doing business with the infamous Metal under the alias Minnow. I took a break for 07 and am ready to begin again with SktNrd.com. My name is Brian Nugent and thanks for watching.
